I have seen this dryer all over youtube recently and we all know I’m a sucker for a short-cut so I thought to myself “Is the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer worth it?”
Will I be able to get voluptuous salon blown hair at home?
Will I be able to ditch my flat iron?
Can I throw out my current hair dryer, which is one blow-dry away from an electrical fire?
WILL THIS DRYER HELP ME FIND THE MEANING OF LIFE???
Just kidding, but for real I love how every youtube reviewer just gushes over every free comp they get, so I bought this baby myself, with my own hard-earned money to find the truth!
I personally evaluated this hot tool in the following 3 categories:
- Ease of use
- Efficiency
- Results
I’m going to be honest, I was already in the market for a blow dryer so that’s why I chose to give this drug store dryer a chance. I was eyeing up those professional dryers, but I don’t want to drop $200 on a hair dryer.
Plus, who doesn’t love the look of a blowout? Unfortunately, I have a hard time with a round brush and a dryer. I just can’t get the knack for using two tools as once on my own head for some reason. So, I usually use a flat brush, which works for drying but doesn’t give me root lift or a curled end. I do get that triangle head look which is suuuuuper-hot.
If any of the following apply to you – THIS IS THE TOOL FOR YOU
- You aren’t coordinated with a brush and blow-dryer
- Have thick, coarse, curly hair – this gets HOT
- Want volume and a smooth finish but don’t want to use a flat iron after
This is NOT the tool for you if:
- Have fine, damaged or thin hair – although this does have a cool setting so that could work if you don’t fight frizz!
- If you are already an advanced user with a round brush/dryer combo
- If you are weak! It gets heavy after a while. So hit those push-ups.
Learned the hard-way, TIPS for better results:
- Brush your knots before you use this tool. It pulled a lot of my hair out, but I hadn’t really brushed it very well. Love using a wet brush for tangles (I’ll add a link below if you haven’t heard of one your living under a rock like me. I swear I am light years behind on cool new beauty products)
- It gets HOT, use the tip to hold on to, I think I refer to this as the “nipple” in my video
- I would air dry hair for a while then start the blow dry process to save even more time
- Clip your hair and go in section sin order to get closer to the root
- Blow dry under, up and around in a sweeping motion, or for a very flat look brush downward
- Blow-dry the top forward/backward for more lift
Final Thoughts
- Ease of use – 8/9 for beginner’s, realistically it’s probably going to be a step backward in terms of manipulability for advanced blow-dryers. Minus 1 point because it gets heavy AF, but that could also just be my problem.
- Efficiency – I give it a 10 in this category. While it didn’t save me time actually blow drying, it did save me from having to use an additional tool for smooth ends.
- Results – it’s a great hot tool for me, I will absolutely continue to use it since its easy and efficient. I like that it smooths much more than a normal blow-dry and that I can still curl my hair after if I feel like it. What more can you ask for?
